The presentation will provide insights on developing a Business Continuity Program and Disaster Recovery Plan in an Ontario upper-tier municipal government describing the journey to understand critical businesses, develop business continuity strategies, business resumption plans, and the Information Technology Business Continuity Plan and share lessons learned.
 
Speaker Bio
Loretta has led the development of The Regional Municipality of York’s Emergency Management Program to ensure annual regulatory compliance and to build a disaster-resilient community since 2004. Leading and developing the Business Continuity Program for York Region is also a cornerstone of any effective emergency management program.

Loretta has over twenty five years of diverse leadership and management experience with the Province of Ontario in areas including public safety, business planning, policy analysis, service quality, environmental assessment and intergovernmental relations.

Loretta has a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Public Administration from the London School of Economics, London England, and an Honours Degree in Political Science from York University, Toronto, Ontario. She was awarded a Certified Municipal Manager III Emergency Management Professional designation in 2007.

Co-Speaker Bio
For over thirty years, Dr. Shallal has been an accomplished Leader & Senior Manager with broad & diversified experience in Information Technology, Strategic Planning and Engineering. Dr Shallal’s current position is Chief Information Technology Officer with the York Region.

His professional background includes over three years with the City of Hamilton as their CIO, and over five years as Director of Geomatics then Executive Director of IT with the Region of Ottawa Carleton. Prior to that, he held senior strategic, engineering and transportation planning positions with Ottawa-Carleton and the Province of Ontario.

Dr. Shallal Credentials include a Diploma in a program for Senior Executives in Local and State Governments from Harvard University, Doctorate and Master degrees in Civil Engineering from Carleton University and Wayne State University respectively and a secondary teaching career at the graduate level for over 15 years.
