| Amin Mawani is an Associate Professor of Health Industry Management Program (HIMP) at the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto. His research and teaching interests are in the field of health economics and financial and managerial control systems in health care organizations. He has also lectured on finance and accounting in McGill University’s International Masters for Health Leadership Program, as well as at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto.
Professor Mawani earned his Ph.D from the University of Waterloo, his LL.M from Osgoode Hall Law School at York, and his MA in Economics from the University of Toronto. He is also a Fellow Certified Management Accountant (FCMA) and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
Professor Mawani has published widely in the field of accounting, finance and public economics. His research has been published in Accounting & Finance, Contemporary Accounting Research, Managerial Finance, Multinational Financial Management, CA Magazine and CMA Management, as well as in numerous edited books.
Professor Mawani just completed his two-year term as the Chair of the Research Committee and a Board Member of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association. He has served as a Board Director for the Financial Planners Standards Council, the Certified Management Accountants of BC and Canadian Crossroads International.
Professor Mawani has been interviewed on CBC's The National, CBC Newsworld and CBC Radio, and quoted by Advisor's Edge and Canadian Press on various financial issues. His research has been cited in The Globe and Mail, The National Post and The Toronto Star.
Professor Mawani has recently completed an economic impact study of the medical devices industry for the Town of Markham. He is currently working on a research project with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to evaluate the economic and clinical outcomes of general versus regional anesthesia in hip and joint replacement surgeries.
