As Group Director of Community Safety Terry has responsibility for the Community Safety Directorate; this consists of the Fire and Rescue Service, Emergency Management Service, Trading Standards, Coroners, Registrars and Community Safety. He chairs several national committees but in particular he is the Chair of the National Resilience Board that oversees the management of Fire and Rescue Service national assets for man- made and natural disasters.
Terry has completed 29 years service in the Fire and Rescue Service and is active in promoting community safety within Gloucestershire as part of his wider role. He successfully completed the Brigade Command Course in 1998 where his international studies analyzed climate change and impact on the Fire and Rescue Service.
Terry commanded the Flood Crisis in Gloucestershire in July 2007 which resulted in the Fire and Rescue service carrying out some 529 boat rescues, dealing with over 2,000 calls for assistance in the first 24 hours and protecting both critical national and sub electrical stations and water treatment plant.
