The presentation discusses four types of disasters actually experienced by the television broadcaster PBS - fire at PBS Headquarters, satellite failures, power failure- and hurricane, relate not only how PBS survived these failures, but also how each of the failures changed the way PBS developed and executed its disaster preparations.
 
Speaker Bio
Sidney Skjei is founder and President of Skjei Telecom, a corporation which is in its 14th year of providing independent technical consulting services to the satellite communications and broadcasting industries. Skjei Telecom specializes in working with users to meet broadcast, production and distribution needs involving satellite, microwave and fiber optic communications. They have helped numerous broadcasting networks develop and improve their production and distribution systems.

In addition to providing engineering consulting services, Mr. Skjei, has been involved in business continuity planning since the late 1980s. For the past 11 years he has specialized in the unique Business Continuity planning needs of broadcasting organizations. He has supported the disaster preparedness efforts of PBS, NPR, Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS), WGBH, WNET, Georgia and Wisconsin Public Broadcasting Networks.
